Farm and parcel demarcation with NATO-type fence!

NATO-type fence is a security fencing applied to military installations, guarding sites, photovoltaic parks, harbors, as well as farms and parcels. In general, it consists of galvanized iron pipe columns, wire mesh and three rows of barbed wire at its top.

NATO-type fences are security fencing that require specialized crews to place them because they have to meet specific international standards. A typical NATO-type fence must incorporate a sliding door of 5 m total length, galvanized iron pipe columns placed at a distance of 2.5 m between them and in holes made to the ground of 0.5 m depth filled with concrete such as two mesh types, wire mesh up to 2 m height above the ground and three rows of barbed wire for the last 0.5 m atop the fence, exactly over the wire mesh. The materials specifications of a typical NATO-type fence are as follows:

  • Galvanized iron pipe columns of 3 m length and 60 mm diameter with a bend of 0.5 m at one end
  • Buttresses of similar iron pipes as mentioned above with a length of 2.5 m
  • Galvanized joints to connect the buttresses with pillars
  • Wire mesh of 2 m width (5,5cm X 5,5cm hole size) and 2.7 mm wire thickness
  • Barbed wire
  • Wire N11
  • Wire N16
  • Concrete C16/20

The calculation of materials quantities and costs of a NATO-type fence must take place once we know the perimeter of the parcel or farm we are interested to demarcate, that is the total length of the fence. If we cannot measure it directly or we do not have a topographic map, we can use Google Maps as last resort. NATO-type fence is the best economical option for enclosing a parcel or farm in case we want to emphasize on its security against potential invaders, whether they are humans or animals get around the particular area.
